DOCTOR OF CLINICAL DENTISTRY (ORTHODONTICS) (DS972) COURSEWORK

Synopsis


 

The Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) programme may be undertaken by coursework which leads to specialist registration. The degree of DClinDent is awarded on the basis of submission of a dissertation and the completions of course work including clinical practice. Completed and successful dissertation should be accepted by the panel of examiners appointed by the university. Candidates attend lectures, seminars, practical sessions, lab work, clinical work and other relevant activities according to the prescribed content of the programme.

 

Additional training is provided in the practical aspects of extended patient care and patient-oriented research in the field of Orthodontics, including the ethics of clinical research and effective communication of clinical research results. Candidates also prepare a cumulative log summarising the practical work performed in the field of Orthodontics for presentation to the supervisors or examiners if requested at the interim and final examinations.

 

Entry Requirement


  • Master degree from UiTM in the area of specialization to be pursued; OR
  • Master degree from other universities or any equivalent qualification from an institution approved by UiTM
  • Candidate applying for admission into this program is required to submit a research proposal to the faculty.

A DClinDent programme is a research project occupying 30% (maximum) of total program time. This project may be a new and independent one or be a discrete part of an existing research program. Another 70% comes from the coursework of the programme which address the clinical specialist training requirement. All DClinDent would share common courses for the research and coursework fulfilment.

 

The programme of study shall consist of Core DClinDent courses together with clinical practice (Specialty Courses), and a programme of supervised research, leading to the submission of a dissertation. The DClinDent courses, the clinical practice requirements, and the dissertation must each be completed satisfactorily or passed.

 

Core DClinDent courses are:

 

·         Core Medical and Oral Sciences

·         Research Design

·         Biostatistics

·         Multidiscplinary Health Sciences

·         Dissertation

 

Specialty Courses are:

 ·         Clinical Orthodontics

 ·         Clinical Community Orthodontics

 ·         Orthodontics Theory

 

The candidate shall, before commencing the dissertation to be described in the research proposal presentation, secure the approval of the Faculty of Dentistry for the topic chosen and the supervisors.

 A candidate will be required to pass both papers in the first and sixth semester of the programme to be able to continue to the second and seventh semesters respectively prior to continue of clinical practice and research.

 

Health Status:

 Applicants to clinical programmes need to provide evidence to the University that they are free from Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C upon acceptance into the programme.
