About Courses

The PhD in Communication was introduced in 1999. Its objective was to provide higher qualification and research skills to graduates and to produce professionals who are more critical and analytical in thinking. The PhD programme is offered only in research mode. For full-time students, the duration of the programme will be three (3) to four (4) years while for part-time, it may take between three (3) to six (6) years to complete the programme.

Students will attend a two-semester once-a-week class held during the weekends where students will be exposed to research methods, preparations for defense of proposal, thesis and viva voce  requirements.

Entry Requirements

  • Academic Qualification
    • Applicant must have a Master's Degree in a relevant field of study from a university recognized by the University Senate and the Malaysian government. [Certain programmes may have other requirements stipulated by the Faculty]
  • English Language Proficiency
    • a TOEFL certificate with a score of at least
    • 550 for (paper based), or
    • 213 (computer based), or
    • 79-80 (IBT), or
    • an IELTS certificate with at least Band 6.0

 *Any other English language certificates other than TOEFL and IELTS are NOT accepted by the university.
